Here's your step-by-step guide to safely removing Gel-X® tips at home or in the salon. This method makes the whole process fast and straightforward — with minimal impact on your natural nail.
What You'll Need
Step 1: E-File Off the Top Coat and Gel Polish
Use an E-File to take off the top coat and gel polish, exposing the Gel-X tip underneath.
Step 2: Trim the Tips with Nail Clippers
Use nail clippers to trim the Gel-X tips down as short as possible. This reduces the amount of gel you'll need to soak off and speeds up the whole process.
Step 3: Acetone and Foil Soak
Cover each nail with a small piece of paper towel, apply acetone over the towel, and wrap the finger in a Nail Remover Foil Wrap. Leave on for about 15–20 minutes.
Step 4: Remove the Foil and Scrape Off the Excess Gel
Unwrap each finger and use a gentle scraping tool to remove the softened gel from the nail. The gel should slide right off after the acetone soak.
Step 5: File the Nail Smooth
Lightly file the nail with your 100/180 Grit Nail File to smooth out the surface and remove any remaining gel residue.
After these five steps, your nails should look healthy with zero gel residue. That's the beauty of the Gel-X® system — when removed correctly, it causes minimal stress to the natural nail.
